Use sustainable materials and methodologies
Environmental responsibility is something we all share. For us this means protecting our planets’ natural resources, avoiding pollution and reducing other forms of environmental harm.
Quality and sustainability go hand in hand in our Premium indoor range of furniture
In a world of ‘wheatbix’ board and plastic, we wanted to champion a return to long lasting, high quality, natural furniture. So we use FSC certified and CARB 2 compliant Birch Ply as our main material of choice in our Premium indoor range.
What does FSC mean?
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. Since its foundation in 1994, FSC has grown to become the world’s most respected and widespread forest certification system. So you can feel confident our materials have been harvested from forests which are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, and environmentally conscious.
What does CARB 2 compliant mean?
CARB2 is a certification process instituted by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to reduce formaldehyde emissions and protect the public from airborne toxic contaminants. Formaldehyde is a highly toxic organic compound, but it’s invaluable in woodworking, where it’s commonly used to make adhesive resins.
The CARB2 compliance certifies that as our ply products age, any formaldehyde released over time is so small, that it poses absolutely no risk to health. So breath easy next time your in one of our classrooms!
Our UV lacquer is the icing on the environmentally friendly cake
When using birch plywood surfaces which requires a UV lacquer we ensure to consider the environment. This is a clear non-toxic lacquered UV finish. This finish is done in controlled factory processes and is therefore difficult to replicate with an off the shelf Lacquer. Care should be taken not to scratch or gouge the surface.

“When we were looking for furniture we were looking for something that fitted in with the natural environment so that the Tamariki saw the link between inside and outside. The reason we loved LSG when looking around was really the natural furnishings they could provide and their attention to detail around our localised curriculums… I would definitely recommend LSG to other schools.”

There’s a lot of research we know now, particularly coming out of Reggio spaces around the environment being the third teacher, so how we create those environments for children is pretty important to how safe they feel in a classroom.
It was really good to have that 3D video fly through, we could walk through with it in the empty spaces before they were furnished and make some decisions about the final furniture choices.
Even when the Prime Minister and our local MP Judith Collins popped in for our opening, they all commented on how beautiful the furniture looks, how the natural vibe, the colour schemes, the natural looking wood really helps to create a space that feels warm and welcoming and family like.

From their initial proposal presentation through to installation and follow up Learning Spaces Global have been great to communicate with. Products have arrived on time and they had staff here when furniture was unpacked and set up.
The furniture is attractive and engaging, encouraging learners to interact with each other creatively. The products made to a very high standard that will stand the test of time in a busy learning environment.
